STILETTO IN THE GHETTO

23 Feb '11

-         SAVE THE DATE –Friday 18th March

STILETTO IN THE GHETTO

A first for street style catwalk shows where stiletto meets ghetto!

Set in Brisbane’s cultural hub; Fortitude Valley, the night will include a ‘street style’ catwalk, visual exhibitions, designer auction, pop up bars, free-styling DJ’s, chill out lounge areas and live performances.

Banding together, KAW Marketing & PR, TONIC Architecture & Design and FOLLOW Online have created a unique and exciting way to combine our blessed evening weather, love of the outdoor and partying in the Valley.

Justin from Tonic Architects said they, along with KAW and Follow, wanted to do something different in Brisbane, and find a cool way of supporting the flood relief fund. Kelly from KAW jumped at the chance saying:

“Being in the Valley, you can’t help but appreciate the diversity. I think people are often surprised by the hidden lane ways, businesses and talent found there. I thought this would be a great way to celebrate the community atmosphere and show the incredible talent and creativity right here in our neighbourhood. What better way to do that then through art, fashion, great music and amazing people! ” Kelly said.

Road closure will allow the event to spill into the lanes. With projections onto external walls and live music & DJ’s keeping the crowds entertained.

To kick off the evening Sinead Burgess, a stunning pop/rock Brisbane based artist, will be performing songs from her debut album.

Models from Viviens Model Management - along with some mystery celebrities - will be taking to the runway showing swimwear by Kini Bikini. Other shows will include clothing by SOOT and Young Designers Online. With local retailers including Garnsis Boutique, Fallow, City Dweller and SUBFUSCO, also supporting the event. Auctions of the designer outfits will follow the show.

Host for the evening will be Brooke Lowther (105FM radio announcer, Fox Sport presenter), who will bring a cheeky and fun element to the night. While Hasley Cush of Ray White, New Farm will be brandishing the auctioneer’s hammer.

Other events will include the Redbull battle of the artists - giving us some interesting interpretations of ghetto street art!

The event is free, with proceeds raised from the night (auction and bar) donated to the Flood Appeal.

WAC Flood Appeal Fundraiser

WAC Flood Appeal Fundraiser

Hello to all our wonderful customers,

We are all aware of the devastation the recent floods caused in Brisbane last month.

WAC is doing it's bit to help, and so can you. As a family we have been giving all that we can personally to assist with clothing, home wares etc and are now reaching out to our wonderful community within the WAC.

We have set up a 'Flood Appeal' shop space within the WAC for items to be sold and all proceeds from the sale of these items will be donated to the Premiers Flood Relief Appeal.

As well as these donations WAC has sponsored a family. This family are close friends of Sarah Jane and Pauls and they have been living with them with their 4 year old son who is has severe autism, since the devastating event in January 2011.

These guys are still spending every day cleaning up their property at Rocklea whilst trying to maintain a ‘normal’ routine for their beautiful son.

How can you help?
We are calling for all antique/retro/vintage household items to be donated to us here at Woolloongabba Antique Centre. These will be priced and sold in the Flood Relief space, and 100% the funds donated.
Items need to be clean and free of dust and in good saleable condition, drop them here at WAC, labelled 'Flood Apeal' and our fabulous staff will do the rest.

Got no supplies and still want to help?
Send our email to every Man, Woman and Child in your address book, ring the relo’s that you haven’t spoken to in 100 years and tell them come and show their support for our Flood victims.

We all have items in our home (of an antique/retro nature) that we can afford to donate to help others in their time of need, from the simplest items, knives, forks, glasses to occasional tables, drawers and cupboards etc.

We look forward to your support.

Thankyou all for being so wonderful,

Megan & Sarah Jane

ALBARE TRAVEL DIARY

ALBARE TRAVEL DIARY

Acclaimed jazz musician, Albare pledges 100% of proceeds from Brisbane & Gold Coast shows to The Premiers Flood Relief Appeal

Sophisticated, modern jazz guitar instrumentals. Cafes and bars, your summer soundtrack is right here TIME OUT, SYDNEY

Entering The Basement was more like sauntering down a European street, thanks to the hypnotic bohemian sounds of Albare  MATHEW PERKINS. 702 ABC SYDNEY

Albares guitar spins webs of incandescent melody as the thumping backbeat, especially the ominous throb of his bass, recall the enigmatic iciness of Massive Attack. ROBERT SUTTON INK19.COM

One of Australias finest jazz musicians, Melbourne-based artist Albare, will be bringing his mesmerizing show to Queensland for two shows in February, and has pledged 100% of profits from ticket sales to The Premiers Flood Relief Appeal.

Known as one of the early pioneers of acid jazz in Australia in the early 90s, recent critical praise for Albare has been unanimously glowing, with the release of two studio albums in 2010, and a run of packed out shows in Melbourne & Sydney.  And now, Albare will showcase his new album, Travel Diary, with a national tour that kicks off in the Gold Coast on Tuesday, February 22nd at The Basement and Brisbanes Old Museum on Wednesday, February 23rd.

The latest album consists of ten original tracks, all composed by Albare himself and featuring Travel Diary, his band of exceptional musicians who will join him on the road: Joe Chindamo (piano accordion), Rob Burke (sax), Evripides Evripidou (bass) and Daniel Ferrugia (drums/percussion). And as always, Albares beautifully seductive, liquid guitar playing leads the audience on an elegant sonic journey of his fresh and original compositions, reminiscent of a leisurely southern European holiday. Connecting with audiences across the board, from twenty-something hipsters to long time jazz enthusiasts, Albares recent recordings and live performances embrace jazz in its lyrical form, with his style uniquely original to his musical soul, as is evident on Travel Diary.

Do not miss Albare on tour, for a truly extraordinary night out, at a venue near you.  For Gold Coast tickets, visit http://www.theartscentregc.com.au/ and.  Check www.albaremusic.com for tour updates and ticket information.

The devastation of the recent Queensland Floods has not escaped any of our thoughts.   Melissa and Steve lost almost every possession large and small and their house has been stripped back to reveal its very structure. They have no clothes, no toiletries, no furniture. They have temporary accommodation but will need to start building their lives again from scratch.

We would love to bring everyone together, whether you know the couple directly or just heard of them through a friend who has sent you this invite.  Please help us create some happy and lasting memories in the wake of this tough time.  And everyone loves the movies! NOW... ABOUT THE MOVIE..... The Adjustment Bureau

Do we control our destiny, or do unseen forces manipulate us?  Matt Damon stars in the thriller The Adjustment Bureau as a man who glimpses the future fate has planned for him and realizes he wants something else. To get it, he must pursue the only woman he's ever loved across, water and through the streets of modern-day New York.

On the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, ambitious politician David Norris (Damon) meets beautiful contemporary ballet dancer Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt) a woman like none he's every known.  But just as he realizes he's falling for her, mysterious men conspire to keep the two apart.

David learns he is up against the agents of fate itself - the men of the Adjustment Bureau who will do everything in their considerable power to prevent David and Elise from being together.  In the face of overwhelming odds, he must either let her go and accept a predetermined path... or risk everything to defy fate and be with her.
