You won’t see her designs on the catwalk or in shops, but Gold Coast fashion blogger Megan Aney is a rising force in the Australian fashion industry, writes Sarah Murray.

Megan Aney, the local blogger behind An Australian Wintour, has just returned from Rosemount Australian Fashion Week when we sit down for a chat.
“I’ve been really blessed,” she says of the opportunities her blog has presented. While she’s been blogging for two years, this wasn’t the career path the vivacious uni student originally envisioned for herself.
When the former professional dancer tore her achilles tendon in 2007, she was bedridden for 10 months. “I couldn’t really do much,” she recalls. “All I did was read fashion magazines and go online, so I started to really love this whole online community of fashion blogging and different magazines that were doing things online,” Megan says.
Since then, she’s attended a number of Australia’s high-profile fashion festivals and was last year nominated for Cosmopolitan’s Woman of the Year award.
“[My blog] mainly caters to people who aren’t part of the fashion industry. A lot of bloggers dedicate their blogs to people who are in the industry who work around fashion, but I try and commercialise mine a bit more,” says Megan, adding that she’s nothing like her blog’s namesake, Anna Wintour. “I strive for her business principles,” she laughs. When asked for advice to share with other bloggers, she says, “You’ve just got to remember someone is reading [your blog], even if it is only one person!”
