For those who believe fashion and the Gold Coast are two mutually exclusive topics, Gold Coast Fashion Week 2012 (GCFW) is set to push the boundaries of design with an award festival to recognise Australian talent.

Event coordinator Michaela Fitzgerald has been working with marketing manager Danielle Daquino and a variety of talent in the fields of fashion, design, photography and events to bring GCFW to life.

“The Gold Coast has been in the process of making over its image and reputation, and we wanted to do the same for Fashion Week. We wanted to create a fresh and unique concept,” she explains.

Going beyond the ubiquitous bikini babe image, established, up-and-coming, swimwear and student designers will have the opportunity to showcase their latest collections at the consumer-driven festival. The designers and labels involved will be listed on the website.

“There is more to the Gold Coast than surf, sun and sand,” Danielle reiterates. “Our intention is to celebrate sophistication and style that is synonymous with an array of talented designers.

“The Gold Coast has come a long way, especially with high-end boutiques such as Designer Forum, Joy Hysteric, ZALI and Cubic Collective. They are edgy and on trend, yet not steering too far from that glamorous appeal the Gold Coast has to offer.”

Gold Coast Fashion Week 2012 will be held at The Oracle luxury apartment towers in Broadbeach from February 8 to 12. In addition to the runway shows held in the heart of The Oracle, there will be an array of sophisticated soirees and events in support of Fashion Week including a launch party to be held in the Zen Gardens of The Oracle, a Meet the Designer Luncheon at Lauxes, Swimwear Show and Cocktail Party at Mecca Bah, and the Wrap Party at a secret location.

“[GCFW] is exciting, edgy and will appeal to a wide market of fashion industry insiders, the media and consumers who have a passion for fashion,” Michaela says.
