Splits Stretching at Fitness Wonderland

Splits Stretching

The lowdown: It’s a stretching course to help you do the splits.
Tell me more: Designed by physiotherapist Selina Tannenberg, Splits Stretching gradually increases the range of movement in the pelvis, hips and legs to allow you to do front and centre splits. Created with a physiotherapist’s knowledge of anatomy, muscle function, biomechanics and dynamics of movement, it addresses muscle tightness to improve muscle flexibility in a safe and efficient manner.
Can anyone do it? Yes, this course is designed for the recreational dancer, particularly those without a dance or gymnastic background.
What areas of the body get a workout? The focus is on isolating the ribs, lumbar spine, pelvis, hips and legs to allow the pelvis and hip joints to open. Emphasis is also placed on core and leg strength.
Benefits? Better flexibility. Removing tightness throughout the body will help maintain your range of movement, reduce the pressure on your joints and allow your muscles to function properly and efficiently.
The deets? Each 90-minute class is limited to eight people to allow individual attention. It’s $200 for a six-week course with all equipment and props provided.

Zen Wall Pilates

Wall Pilates

The lowdown: It’s Pilates. Against a wall.
Tell me more: Wall Pilates is a US system used by many celebrities for fast and intense body sculpting. Using a five-level system with the aid of belts and clips for support, Wall Pilates is a more intense version of traditional Pilates.
Can anyone do it? Zen Wall Pilates owner and instructor Sandra Lai says it’s perfect for beginners as they can safely achieve a more advanced workout than they would with general Pilates with belts and clips for support.
What areas of the body get a workout? Wall Pilates works out the whole body concentrating on the two weakness areas of the abdominal core and the buttocks. Expect to see results after just four sessions.
Benefits? The intensity of the workout is an effective method to flatten abs and develop beautiful glutes with visible results in a relatively short period. Reduction or improvement of back pain due strengthening of glutes and transverse abdominal muscles and improved posture.
The deets?
The one-hour class is limited to 15 people to allow ample access to the wall. Prices start from $25 for three classes within 10 days with bulk sessions and monthly packages available.

Raw Training at Phoenix Physique

Raw Training

The lowdown: This training style uses torture implements tyres, sledgehammers, kettle bells, sandbags and other training equipment for a full-body workout.
Tell me more: Raw Training utilises both anaerobic and aerobic energy systems and is the most effective training style for increasing  strength, power and endurance all at the same time. The techniques have been around for hundreds of years in Europe but have only recently started to be used in Australia. Raw Training is perfect for rapid weight loss due to the amount of energy expended during a single session.
Can anyone do it? It’s best suited to those with an intermediate or advanced level of lifting and fitness.
What areas of the body get a workout? Phoenix Physique founders Jarreau Robson and Daniel Jokovich reckon your body will feel like you just won the next crossfit games! Every muscle gets a look in during this class.
The deets? Each one-hour class has a maximum of 20 participants with two trainers. A six–week course is $120.

Aqua Zumba at Fitness Wonderland

Aqua Zumba

The lowdown: It’s Zumba. In a pool. Get your Latino dance on in the water!
Tell me more: Aqua Zumba is adapted to the aquatic environment without losing the basic identity and flavours that makes Zumba so much fun. Physical Addiction owner and instructor Celine Puglisi says it’s much more difficult to move through water so movement in any direction increases resistance. In Aqua Zumba participants work on aerobic endurance, muscle resistance, flexibility and joint mobility at the same time.
Can anyone do it? It’s perfect for beginners to advanced and all ages, male or female. Anyone who wants a complete workout in half the time.
What areas of the body get a workout? Aqua Zumba targets all areas of the body. Moving against the multidirectional resistance of water works all muscles and helps promote muscle balance.
Benefits? Aqua  Zumba allows the individual to work out without stressing the joints and back due to the decrease in the force of gravity.
The deets? The one-hour class is limited to 20 people. Each class is $10 for casuals or free for Physical Addiction members.
